With his distinctive falsetto voice, Scottish singer Jimmy Somerville made quite an impression on the 80s. The “strange fusion” of his disco with the new digital sound, in bands Bronski Beat and The Communards, provided a powerful soundtrack to the decade. And, he tells interviewer Neil McCormick, the hits including the poignant and autobiographical ‘Smalltown Boy’ gave him a political platform.

Friday 3rd April, 11.00pm - The Vintage TV Sessions
A feast of home-grown talent is to be savoured in an eclectic British line-up on our live Vintage TV Sessions. Veteran DJ David ‘Kid’ Jensen will be giving a warm welcome to up and coming and established acts who will be performing two songs apiece: acclaimed folk artists Seth Lakeman and Luke Sital-Singh, singer songwriter Nerina Pallot, 80s pop rockers T’Pau, fronted by the flame-haired Carol Decker, and the ever soulful Jaki Graham.
