Saturday 15th February, 7.00pm - Neil McCormick’s Needle Time: Neil Finn
Veteran musician and frontman of Split Enz and Crowded House, New Zealand’s Neil Finn lifts the lid here on his incredible career. His music has encompassed rock, art rock, new wave and pop. Hits including ‘Weather with You’, ‘Something So Strong’, and ‘Don’t Dream It’s Over’, written in the aftermath of an emotional experience while holed up in a friend’s flat, have been huge for him. It’s all been about aiming high and trying to climb the musical mountain despite the risks, he explains.
Sunday 16th February, 5.00pm - Toyah & Robert: My Vintage (and Thursday 20th February at 10pm)
She’s our Vintage TV presenter and princess of punk and he’s played with Bowie and Blondie and is one of the world’s greatest guitarists. Now Toyah Willcox and her musician, composer and record producer husband Robert Fripp, of prog rockers King Crimson, invite us into their Worcestershire home for a joint My Vintage, giving a fascinating and intimate insight into the records they are both passionate about and telling the tales behind their top tracks. What a couple! What a coup for My Vintage!
Sunday 16th February, 8.00pm - The Janice Long Review Show (and Wednesday 19th February at 10pm)
Artists eager to express their informed opinions on Janice’s two review albums this week are Matt Goss of Bros, Dan Gillespie Sells, frontman of The Feeling, and American soul singer P.P. Arnold. But will Kirsty MacColl’s late 80s breakthrough record ‘Kite’ fly for our guests, and will they find George Michael’s 1996’s ‘Older’ musically mature or will it leave them none the wiser? Tuesday 18th February, 10.00pm - Neil McCormick’s Needle Time: Lloyd Cole (and Saturday 22nd February at 7pm)
Lloyd Cole joins Neil for a frank exchange about his musical roots, his respect for Morrissey, and a fear of being marginalized. Neil’s esteemed guest discusses embracing bitter old age, why The Commotions didn’t last, going solo, his latest album and what it takes to write a good song in this hour-long talk and music show, featuring Lloyd’s own exclusive acoustic performance of ‘Are You Ready To Be Heartbroken?
Thursday 20th February, 8.00pm - The Vintage TV Sessions
Bringing you all the atmosphere, excitement and intimacy of a live gig for your viewing pleasure are our Vintage TV Sessions. And we are very proud to present, from the brilliant Bedford pub in Balham, five more awe-inspiring acts performing two songs each. Taking the stage for our third sessions are glam rocker Alvin Stardust, singer songwriters Leddra Chapman and Newton Faulkner, Gabrielle of ‘Dreams’ fame, and northern indie collective The Jar Family. Our own Toyah Willcox is your host.
