Saturday 19th October, 3.00pm - Broadway Bonanza: South Pacific with Jason Howard

Jump aboard and sail with us on a glorious voyage to the multi award-winning ‘South Pacific’, a beloved musical which enjoyed huge critical and box office success and made waves with its exploration of racial prejudice. Presenter Lesley Anne Knight is at the helm, and Jason Howard, who played romantic Frenchman Emile de Becque in a US tour and at the Barbican, is our studio stowaway this week.

 

Saturday 19th October, 7.00pm - Neil McCormick’s Needle Time: Dave Stewart

Our Neil has bagged another brilliant interview here, with Dave Stewart no less, singer songwriter, producer, collaborator extraordinaire, and one half, of course, of the Eurythmics, one of the most successful pop-rock duos of all time. He tells how it felt as though it was him and Annie Lennox against the world, how he has loved linking up with a wealth of other artists to make great music and why he was drawn to Nashville to produce his new album.

 

Saturday 19th October, 9.00pm - Dance the Night Away

3 hour 3 programme special!

Roll up the carpet, dust off the disco lights and get into the groove as we bring the party to you with three hours of favourite funky floor-fillers that will bring on the Night Fever and have you Dancing on the Ceiling: step aside señors as the women strut their stuff in Vintage Queens of Disco (9pm) featuring The Weather Girls, Candi Staton and Gloria Gaynor; feel the force as Dancefloor Classics (10pm) from the likes of Chaka Khan, Lionel Richie and ABBA will leave you no choice but to boogie; and carry on the good time vibe with back-to-back Bee Gees, Alexander O’Neal, Cameo, Shalamar and more in Dancefloor Classics: Volume 2 (11pm). Party on!

 

Sunday 20th October, 5.00pm - Katie Melua: My Vintage (and Thursday 24th October at 10pm)

The talented, tussle-haired singer songwriter of ‘Closest Thing to Crazy’ fame, makes a welcome return to the Vintage studios to reveal the songs that make her smile, why she will always love Queen, the soundtrack to her childhood in Georgia and Belfast, her ultimate songwriter and how she loves to follow hero Moby on Twitter.

 

Sunday 20th October, 7.00pm - The Vintage TV Sessions

Bringing you all the buzz and atmosphere of a gig, we are very excited to be introducing the first of our Vintage TV Sessions featuring an eclectic hour-long line-up of five up-and-coming and established acts – Cara Dillon, Mike Lindup, Kiki Dee and Carmelo Luggeri, CC Smugglers and Stephen Kellogg - performing fresh new songs and hit tracks at the brilliant Bedford pub in Balham and chatting to hosts Janice Long and Neil McCormick. 

 

Sunday 20th October, 8.00pm - The Janice Long Review Show (and Wednesday 23rd October at 10pm)

Janice’s guests – singer songwriter Thea Gilmore, The Farm frontman Peter Hooton and Will Hodgkinson of The Times - sharpen their reviewing skills to put two albums ever-present on those all-time ‘best of’ lists through their paces; John Martyn’s 70s offering of jazzy folk, ‘Solid Air’, and The Clash’s ‘Sandinista!’ which fused many genres to pre-empt the 80s world music explosion.

 

Monday 21st October, 4.00pm - Broadway Bonanza: Guys and Dolls with Richard Eyre (and Thursday 24thOctober at 12.15pm and Saturday 26th October at 3pm)

All the hustle and bustle of life State-side in the 20s and 30s is brought to you this week as we present the wisecracking, sharp-shooting and fast living ‘Guys and Dolls’, set amid the gamblers, hoods and colourful characters of New York city, one of Broadway’s most enduring musicals, in the company of presenter Lesley Anne Knight and Sir Richard Eyre, who directed the show at the National Theatre in 1982. 

 

Tuesday 22nd October, 10.00pm - Neil McCormick’s Needle Time: Ralph McTell (and Saturday 26th October at 7pm)

The hugely influential and legendary father of folk, who has been writing and performing since the 60s, takes us by the hand and leads us through the streets of his musical journey as he talks guitar playing techniques, the stories and poetry in his lyrics, his travels and how he feels now about his most famous song, with our Neil.

 

Wednesday 23rd October, 7.30pm - Vintage TV at Rewind 2013 (and Friday 25th October at 5.30pm)

Heaven for those who adore everything awesomely 80s, Rewind Henley is one of our favourite festivals, and you can revisit it with us as the stage-side Janice Long brings you interviews with a selection of the acts: here she is digging their scene with The Blow Monkeys, and chatting to rockers Cutting Crew of the ‘(I Just) Died in Your Arms’ chart-topper.
