Frazer managed to maintain his role from 1966 to 1969, performing in 117 episodes of Doctor Who – more than any other ‘companion’ in the history of the series. Here, the established television actor joins Vintage TV to take us through his favourite classic tracks. His playlist of top vintage tunes includes The Monkees’ ‘Daydream Believer’, Satus Quo’s ‘Marguerita Time’, ELO’s ‘Hold On Tight’ and Cliff Richard’s ‘Move It’.
Sunday 21st July, 6.30pm - American Alternative Rock (and Tuesday 23rd July at 9pm & Friday 26th at 10pm)
A uniquely diverse genre, American Alternative Rock is to be celebrated for its loud, distorted guitars, its D.I.Y, punk-inspired ethos and the broad range of underground acts that congregate under the umbrella term of ‘Alt Rock’. Not least of all, we should bear in mind its influence on the likes of furious reactionaries such as Pulp, Oasis, Suede and Blur. Tune in for Pearl Jam, Green Day, Red Hot Chilli Peppers, Foo Fighters and many more classic American Alternative Rock acts besides.
Tuesday 23rd July, 10.00pm - Neil McCormick’s Needle Time: Fran Healy (and Saturday 27th July 9pm)
Born in Stafford and raised in Glasgow, Fran Healy’s songwriting has been praised by Paul McCartney, Elton John and Noel Gallagher, with Chris Martin even calling himself “a poor man’s Fran Healy”. Healy’s band, Travis, has twice been awarded British album of the year at the BRITs and is credited with paving the way for British bands such as Coldplay and Keane. In this episode of Needle Time, Fran joins Neil McCormick to talk fatherhood, his obsession with songwriting, and the loss of an innocence he wishes he could regain. The singer-songwriter behind the UK chart-topping album, The Invisible Band (2001), touches on the trials and tribulations of making a record and his initiation into the world of music.
