Channel Highlights w/c 28th Sept
Saturday 28th September, 3.00pm - Broadway Bonanza: Pal Joey with Sian Phillips
We are ‘Bewitched, Bothered and Bewildered’ this week on our marvellous musicals show with Pal Joey in the spotlight and special guest Welsh actress Sian Phillips, who won an Olivier award nomination for her portrayal of socialite Vera in the much-loved Rodgers and Hart hit Broadway production.
Sunday 29th September, 5.00pm - Kiki Dee: My Vintage (and Thursday 3rd October at 10pm)
The singer, star of musical theatre and chart-topper with the irresistibly irrepressible ‘Don’t Go Breaking My Heart’ with Elton John, pulls out a selection of all-time classics from legendary artists that have sound-tracked her life, tells why she is on record-swapping terms with Kate Bush and how Johnny Cash saw her perform.
Sunday 29th September, 8.00pm - The Janice Long Review Show (and Wednesday 2nd October at 10pm)
It’s praises were universally sung, but will our studio guests, rock chick Suzi Quatro, acclaimed singer songwriter Jack Savoretti and music journalist Paul Williams, be so evangelical about The Verve’s ‘Urban Hymns’, and will they go crazy for Joe Cocker’s ‘Mad Dogs and Englishmen’?
Monday 30th September, 4.00pm - Broadway Bonanza: Oklahoma! with Maureen Lipman (and Thursday 3rd October at 12.15pm and Saturday 5th October at 3pm)
We pitch up in Oklahoma! this week on our star-studded musicals show to explore this emotion-laden Rodgers & Hammerstein offering in the entertaining company of actress, comedienne and all-round national treasure Maureen Lipman, who played Aunt Eller in the NT revival of the beloved Broadway hit.
Tuesday 1st October, 10.00pm - Neil McCormick’s Needle Time: Joe Brown (and Saturday 5th October at 7pm)
Respect is due as Neil welcomes veteran singer, actor, cockney rocker and top bloke Joe Brown to his interview show and hears how he started out five decades ago in the era of skiffle, how he bought his first guitar for £1, how The Beatles were big fans of his music and how he is still pulling in the crowds at 100 shows a year.
Thursday 3rd October, 7.00pm - Focus on Camden
London’s calling in this cool collection of tracks with Camden-connections, so why not head to the big smoke with us for some awesome urban offerings including ‘Back to Black’ from Amy Winehouse, ‘Dirty Old Town’ from The Pogues, ‘Animal Nitrate’ from Suede and Coldplay’s ‘Yellow’.
