Saturday 29th June, 7.00pm - Neil McCormick's Needle Time: Feargal Sharkey

Distinct-of-voice, Derry-born frontman of The Undertones, Feargal Sharkey, joins writer, music journalist and presenter, Neil McCormick, to talk about delivering TVs as a young punk, touring with The Ramones, being covered by One Direction, and how his band finally grew apart. In this episode of Needle Time, Feargal reveals his first word, his last album, how he became a member of the Radio Authority, and discusses reconciling himself to the securities and insecurities of middle age.


Sunday 30th June, 5.30pm - Judie Tzuke: My Vintage (and Wednesday 3rd July at 11pm)

Judie Tzuke was signed by Elton John’s label in 1977, releasing her first single, ‘For You’, in 1978. Her first major success came with a hit from her 1979 album, ‘Welcome to the Cruise’. Here, the ‘Stay With Me Till Dawn’ singer introduces her favourite tracks, including Prince’s undisputed classic, ‘When Doves Cry’, Neil Young’s achingly beautiful ‘Heart of Gold’ and the heart-breaking ‘Jolene’ by Dolly Parton.

 

Tuesday 2nd July, 7.00pm - Focus On: Manchester

This Is How It Feels: New Order’s ‘Blue Monday’, The Smiths’ ‘Panic’, the Happy Mondays’ ‘Step On’ and Joy Division’s ‘Love Will Tear Us Apart’ all feature in this mid-week medley of the most majestic Mancunian melody makers. ‘Can You Dig It?’


Tuesday 2nd July, 10.00pm - Neil McCormick’s Needle Time: Tom Robinson (and Saturday 6th July at 7pm)

British singer-songwriter, bassist and radio presenter, Tom Robinson, is best known for the hits ‘Glad to be Gay’, ‘Don’t Take No for an Answer’ and ‘2-4-6-8 Motorway’. Responsible for penning ‘War Baby’, about divisions between East and West Germany, Robinson has always taken an active role in commentating on issues of a socio-political nature. A supporter of Amnesty International, ‘OutRage!’ and a leader of the Rock Against Racism campaign, he joins Neil McCormick for another episode ofNeedle Time and a thoughtful look back over his career in the music industry.
