Channel Highlights w/c 30th November
Saturday 30th November, 7.00pm - Neil McCormick’s Needle Time: Gabrielle
With her distinctive voice and even more distinctive eyewear, double BRIT award-winning English singer Gabrielle made quite an impression when she emerged on the scene in the early 90s with chart-topper ‘Dreams’, but it hasn’t all been wishes come true for the star as she tells interviewer Neil how music was her therapy during some torrid times, how her eye-patch made her feel beautiful and how she learned to ‘Rise’ again.
Sunday 1st December, 5.00pm - Dr Robert: My Vintage (and Thursday 5th December at 10pm)
We’re digging the scene this week of floppy-fringed frontman Dr Robert, whose Blow Monkeys brought a welcome breeze of stylish sophisti-pop to the 80s, sharing in his top record choices which take in Fleetwood Mac and The Fall and everything in between, including the English folk his wife has turned him on to, and a Paul Weller track he was chuffed to play bass on.
Sunday 1st December, 8.00pm - The Janice Long Review Show (and Wednesday 4th December at 10pm)
Our studio is infused with festive spirit this week as Janice unwraps the first of her Christmas albums for our revelling reviewers, but will Slade’s ‘Crackers: The Christmas Party Album’ and Bob Dylan’s ‘Christmas in the Heart’ set the bells a-jingling for Aussie singer songwriter Gabriella Cilmi, Olly Knights of London duo Turin Brakes and comedian and musician Mitch Benn?
Monday 2nd December, 9.00pm - A Very Vintage Christmas (repeated Wednesday 4th 10am, Friday 6th Noon and Saturday 7th at 3pm)
The fire is lit and we are cosying up with the first of the special guests on our new festive show: presenters Toyah Willcox and Wizzard’s Roy Wood talk Christmas with singer songwriter Leddra Chapman, and also 80s beehive queen singer Mari Wilson, before they each perform for us. Leddra treats us to her take on ‘Happy Xmas (War is Over)’ and 'Fairytale of New York’, while Mari enchants with 'Mrs Santa Claus’ and ‘First of May’.
Tuesday 3rd December, 10.00pm - Neil McCormick’s Needle Time: Future Vintage (and Saturday 7th December at 7pm)
Powerful influences from their past seem to have very much shaped the creative output of our three guests this week – American singer songwriter Kat Edmonson, Australia’s Emily Barker and the eponymous frontman of folk, rock and soul outfit Danny Wilson and The Champions of The World - who reveal just what has moved them to make music to interviewer Neil before we hear them 'live'.
Wednesday 4th December, 7.30pm - Vintage TV at Rewind 2013 (and Friday 6th December at 5.30pm)
Back-tracking to the summer here (yeh!) and to the wonderful Rewind festival, that mecca for those who worship at the altar of all things 80s, as Janice chums up with performers The Sugarhill Gang, of the chart-topping, Chic-channelling ‘Rapper’s Delight’ and ‘The One and Only’ – yes, you’ve got it – Chesney Hawkes – for some good old backstage banter.
