Saturday 31st August, 8.00pm - August Night of Summer Sun
Be our VIP guest at ‘Club Tropicana’ as we prepare the decks for a sun-drenched two-hour, two-programme special: It’s the ‘Summer of ‘69’, we’re ‘Surfin’ USA’ on ‘Holiday’ in the ‘Caribbean Blue’ with ‘Mr Blue Sky’ on Vintage Summer (8pm); and we’re cruising down to Latin America for the pulsating and passionate rhythms of Shakira, Santana, Gipsy Kings, Ricky Martin and more with a smokin’ hot soundtrack to Latin Heat (9pm).
Sunday 1st September, 5.30pm - Peter Cox: My Vintage (and Thursday 5th September at 10pm)
The ‘King of Wishful Thinking’, Peter Cox, one half of 1980s pop and blue-eyed soul duo Go West, reveals the songs that float his boat and moor him up in musical heaven, including ‘Living in America’ by “the hardest working man in showbiz”, James Brown, and ‘Billie Jean’ by Michael Jackson, an artist who made a big impression on him.
Monday 2nd September, 4.00pm - Broadway Bonanza: Show Boat with Janis Kelly
A sensational showbiz welcome to Broadway Bonanza as the curtain rises on our magical must-see new show, with presenter Lesley Anne Knight introducing an iconic musical a week over the next ten weeks - starting with the sparkling Show Boat - with fascinating tales from behind the scenes, interviews with stars and all your favourite songs from the shows, of course. Tuesday 3rd September, 10.00pm - Neil McCormick’s Needle Time: Bob Geldof
He might not like Mondays, but music legend, world stage campaigner and chief Rat of the Boomtown variety is on great form here, in an extended 90-minute episode of Needle Time in which he takes us on a riveting journey through his eclectic career, from the dark formative days of Ireland in the 70s to the heady heights of Live Aid and chart-topping hits, with the stories behind the songs, the artists he admires and the reasons for the ‘The Rats’ revival.
Wednesday 4th September, 10.00pm - The Janice Long Review Show
Two seminal offerings that would top many a ‘greatest ever’ list are reviewed here as talented musicians and songwriters Seth Lakeman, and Ian Broudie of The Lightning Seeds, along with award-winning magazine editor and author Mark Ellen, turn their attention to The Stone Roses’ influential eponymous album, which defined the Madchester movement and the 90s, and Paul Simon’s ‘Graceland’, a melting pot of musical styles, recorded in South Africa.
