Lou Reed dies aged 71
Lou Reed, guitarist, vocalist and chief songwriter of the Velvet Underground and successful solo artist, has died aged 71. Lou Reed was born in Brooklyn, New York, on 2nd March 1942.

Widely regarded as one of the most influential bands of the 1960s, Velvet Underground had Lou Reed performing alongside John Cale and collaborating with pop art artist, Andy Warhol.
The Velvets released their debut, "The Velvet Underground & Nico", in 1967 and the follow-up, "White Light/White Heat", a year later.
Reed left the Velvets in 1970 before releasing his eponymous solo debut album in 1972. In the same year, he released another studio LP, ‘Transformer’ - which included classic tracks such as "Walk On The Wild Side" and "Perfect Day".
A feature documentary on Reed, "Lou Reed: Rock and Roll Heart", won a Grammy in 1999.
According to the Associated Press, Reed's literary agent said he died of a "liver-related ailment". Lou underwent a liver transplant in May.
